Summer 2 Topics and Activities
IDuring this half term term Year 2’s learning will be inspired by the topic “Healthy lifestyles”. We will be learning about healthy eating in particular: “where does our food come from?” as well as how to prepare a healthy balanced meal. This is a great link to our trip on Wednesday 19th July to Stirley Farm where the children will get a first-hand experience of selecting crops and creating a fresh healthly dish to take home. In P.E. we will be focusing on outdoor and adventurous activities, looking at the different skills needed and working as a team. Literacy and guided reading will focus on poetry and letter writing this half term. We will be looking at the different forms of writing and how to write for the correct purpose. Maths will be focused on number; looking at shape space and measure as well as extending our multiplication and division knowledge.
Life in Year Two
This takes place on a Tuesday and Thursday so both an indoor and outdoor P.E. kit are essential. Children must have their kits in school Monday to Friday. They will bring it home every Friday after school.
The children do need water bottles in school every day. Water breaks are provided during the day, as well as the children being able to choose to have a drink when thirsty. Water bottles are often taken to the P.E. lesson to ensure the children remain well hydrated during physical exertion.
Welcome to Year 2 Maths Homework:
Each week we will complete a mental maths test on a Tuesday morning, afterwards the children will individually work with Mrs Sipka on their maths target. The maths target is either straight from the mental maths paper or from work within class which we feel will benefit your child’s learning. Maths homework will be given out on a Tuesday and expected in the following Tuesday.
Welcome to Year 2 Spelling and Guided Reading Homework:
Each week we will complete a spelling test on a Thursday morning. The children will be required to learn the spelling individually, then to place it correctly in a sentence. The spelling target is either straight from the spelling test or from work within class which we feel will benefit your child’s learning. Guided reading homework will be a comprehension for you and your child to work through together allowing your child to explore different text and question forms. Spelling and guided reading homework will be given out on a Thursday and expected in the following Thursday.
Thank you for all your support, Miss Henderson & Mrs Sipka.
